Do you know if it will be possible to have actual races on them in the future? Is that a planned update?

Yep splines for actual racing is being worked on at the moment, and they are the next "planned" update.  How long it will take is unknown,  you just have to keep checking the forums and showing your support for Twisted Dirt.
