custom objects bug-HELP!!!!!

since i'm not good at making objects,and i need some that are not included with track editor,i downloaded some obj. from various sites(including FIXER's crosstown objects).i put the required files into the OBJECTS/WHATEVER folder of TRACK EDITOR dir.that resulted in objects and their icons where they should be,butwhen i try to place a custom object,editor closes.why?
