Fantasy Cross Season
Background Information
Practice Tracks
These are the tracks that I have designed for the different arenas of the 99 Supercross season.
I have finished the complete season and I have gone back and converted all the classic, 3-Tier, and StepUp tracks to StepUp 2.

FantasyCross '99 Background Information
Rainbow Studios did so well with the National tracks and Stunt Quarries that I expected more from their Supercross tracks. I played with the track editor and I was impressed with the results that you could get without much effort. It is quite possible to build challenging Supercross tracks that have the same qualities as real supercross, so I'm not sure why they didn't provide more Supercross like tracks than they did. Their 1998 season and the Canyon tracks seemed more like national tracks and didn't have the tricky jump combinations of Supercross.
An important aspect of a good Supercross track is to have multiple lines around the track. A track should have several series of jumps that are able to be taken quickly in several different ways. If you have an exceptional run you should be able to quad, triple or double things that you normally don't. They should be challenging enough that you make mistakes. Most mistakes should cost you time not cause a crash. You should be unable to go flat out the whole time. They should require technical skill and timing to go fast, not just the ability to hang on. I also wanted tracks that were excellent for multiplayer racing and provided for multiple lead changes.
I downloaded the 3-Tier plug-in and a few tracks. Most tracks I tried didn't have the Supercross feel, so I decided to build one based on the upcoming Supercross at Anaheim and I used the pictures provided by Pace Motorsports on their Web Site. I was quite pleased with the results. I found that most of the time working on a track is actually spent riding it. You can lay a track out with the track editor in about 5 to 15 minutes and then you spend 1 to many hours tweaking it to get it right, with most of that time spent test riding it. I was so satisified with the results that I then created the Pontiac Silver Dome track, again based on the pictures provided by Pace Motorsports. I used the 3-Tier plugin to do the hill that goes up into the stands. Due to limitations with the track editor (you are only able to make turns in 90 degree increments) I wasn't able to duplicate it exactly but I was quite satisfied with the results.
I contacted Pace Motorsports about permission to make tracks available based on the upcoming season. I was seeking permission from them to distribute them myself or I was willing to give them the tracks and to let them distribute them. They refused to grant a license without charging some large sum of money. They didn't give an amount but it was quite clear it would not be reasonable. They also said they have no interest in supporting Motocross Madness. If you disagree please contact them and let them know you would like their support. There is contact info at their site (a phone number for the PR person). The bottom line is that I have created what I believe are 3 excellent tracks that I cannot give out because I would be violating their copyright.
So I decided that I would create my own tracks for the upcoming season. These tracks are how I would make them if I was designing them. They are not based on Pace's tracks and they are purely my own creations. Of course since the Supercross at the Pontiac, Silver Dome is my favorite Supercross to attend, I built my first track for that arena. I love how they bring the track up into the stands so I did that twice on my track. I will be creating a track for each week of the upcoming season and I will be calling the series Fantasy Cross 99.
