The Dirt on MX vs ATV Reflex Tracks

I like what Rainbow has done with terrain deformation in Reflex. It really adds a lot to the game. The tracks included in the game show it off really well and, after spending a few hours with the PC version, I decided that I wanted to write up a little something about each one from a track maker’s point of view.

I plan to cover each National and SX track in career-mode order, finishing with the four DLC tracks in Arcade mode. Each completed track page includes the following:

Riding Tips

Scawn7 graciously offered riding tips for each track. If all you care about is getting around quickly, jump directly to those notes.

A Detailed Lap

A turn-by-turn track tour with screenshots, lines, options, technical details, and the features that stand out.

Terrain Deformation

The tracks begin with convincing built-in ruts, then add real-time deformation influenced by tire slip, suspension compression, masks, and accumulated laps.

Traction, Water, and Mud

Subtle traction mapping and increasingly effective water and mud treatments add variety and make tracks such as Moto 448 and Razorback memorable.

As far as the deformation, it does get more beat up with more riders because the ruts are actually left by the tires and really reads off of whether the tire is slipping or not as well as how much the bike is compressed.

The deeper it goes, the slower it deforms to simulate the track getting packed down. Developers control how fast and how deep deformation goes separately with masks.
