MCM2 Package Manager
Status: Historical beta; a matching public archive was not found in the preserved download tree.
Game: Motocross Madness 2
Purpose: Planned successor to BikeSwitcher, capable of applying multiple packages to multiple MCM2 RES files.
This page documents the tool even though the referenced beta download is missing. Do not substitute an unrelated “package manager” executable.
Recovered capabilities
- Apply packages to resources other than
bike.res. - Apply several packages to one RES—for example a no-stunts modification, bike model, and rider model together.
- Rebuild a modified resource from a clean backup each time rather than repeatedly patching the previous output.
- Restore stock RES files from the MCM2 CD.
- Show current modifications and package metadata/previews.
- Modify names, bike weight, power curves, sounds, rider/bike models, and other packaged resources.
- Preserve BikeSwitcher's profile and engine-setting functions.
Beta workflow
- Create
Packagesin the MCM2 directory alongsideBikesandRiders. - Install compatible packages there.
- In Package Manager, select All Res Files or a particular target resource.
- Under All Res Files, the first checked package determines the RES being edited; incompatible packages become disabled.
- Select the desired non-conflicting packages and apply them.
- Launch MCM2 and select any corresponding bike/skin when required.
- To remove a modification, uncheck it and rebuild the resource from the clean backup.
The beta required about 200 MB free because it backed up roughly 100 MB of resources and rebuilt from that baseline.
Compatibility and multiplayer
All racers need compatible packages when a modification changes physics, weight, power curves, or shared resource definitions. Forum discussion anticipated StartGate verification for organized events, but that does not make arbitrary combinations network-safe. Record the exact packages and their order.
